How to Integrate Renewables, Storage, and EV Charging at an Industrial Site

Industrial electrification is accelerating. More and more companies are introducing fast and ultra-fast charging hubs, integrating photovoltaic systems, and dealing with increasingly dynamic energy loads. The challenge is not only installing new infrastructure, but also managing energy intelligently while avoiding costly upgrades to the electrical grid.

This need, analyzed and developed internally by Prima Electro’s R&D team, led to the creation of BESAIDE – BESS Module assisted by AI to aDvance Electrification. The project focuses on the development of an AI-based Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) designed for industrial applications.

 

From Traditional Storage to an AI-Driven BESS

A traditional Battery Energy Storage System typically operates as a compensation system. However, the evolution of industrial sites now requires solutions capable of:

  • forecasting energy demand;
  • estimating renewable energy production;
  • optimizing energy flows in real time;
  • supporting high-power EV charging;
  • reducing peak loads without oversizing the infrastructure.

BESAIDE integrates Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning algorithms to transform the BESS into an active platform, capable of dynamically adapting to the operational needs of an industrial site.

 

System Validation in a Real Industrial Environment

The system will be installed and validated at Prima Electro’s Barone Canavese facility, which integrates:

  • a 1 MWp photovoltaic plant;
  • production energy consumption;
  • a 200 kW EV charging hub.

The project aims to reach Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL6), with the goal of transferring the solution toward concrete industrial applications in the energy storage sector for manufacturing sites.

The integration of BESS, renewable energy, and industrial EV charging is now one of the main challenges for companies investing in electrification. Thanks to its expertise in power electronics and in the development of architectures for intelligent energy flow management, Prima Electro addresses this complexity with a systemic approach in which hardware and algorithms evolve together.

BESAIDE represents a concrete step toward AI-based solutions for industrial energy storage, capable of combining efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability.
